Names
The other day, Summer?s dad (who is a very good Calligrapher, and therefore scholar of Chinese) gave me a new Chinese name, because we were going over the text of my business flyer, so as to improve it. My old Chinese name is good for a Chinese person, but not so good for me because for the purpose of advertising and stuff it?s better for the Chinese name to sound like my actual name (Kolya). So my new name is Kuo Liya (all 4th tones). Kuo means rich and successful, or something, and is an actual family name in China. Li means good things, victory and get rich. And Ya means Asia, which is good since I was born here and live here. He also made Chinese names for my parents! For my mum, Sandy: San(3) Di(4). San means umbrella but also has the meaning of protection, not only from sun and rain but also in the sense of protecting Species. It?s also an actual Family name in China. Di means forever young, and younger sister. For my dad, Walter: Wo(4) Ĕr-te(4). Wo is also an actual Family name in China. It means rich, fertile, abundant, plentiful. Ĕr means you. And Te means very. I'll get?her dad?to give my bro a Chineseized version of his name also!
